What is CBD Used For?

The Cannabis plant naturally produces more than 80 chemical compounds referred to as cannabinoids. The two most common cannabinoids are THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), and CBD (cannabidiol). CBD has gotten a lot of attention from the media as being a miracle remedy, which has left many people wondering what is CBD used for and how does it work?

Many people hear the word hemp and think it's the same as marijuana, but there is a difference. Cannabis plants with high THC content are considered to be marijuana, while plants with less than .03% THC are considered to be hemp. CBD is completely legal in the United States as long as it comes from industrial hemp.

THC is the compound responsible for psychoactive effects, while CBD is non-psychoactive, meaning it doesn't cause a "high" but does influence a calm and relaxing feeling in the body.

How does CBD work?

We all have an endocannabinoid system, which consists of receptors in our brain, spinal cord, and nervous systems, among other areas in the body. There are two receptors that make up this system, called CB1 and CB2. CBD and other cannabinoids work by interacting with these receptors.

CB1 receptors are located in the brain and the central nervous system, while CB2 receptors are found on cells throughout the body's immune system.

CBD and other cannabinoids will work by interacting with these receptors.
